With a focus on presenting the “crème de la crème of Indian cinema from the Indian subcontinent,” the 14th edition of this event aims to highlight films and filmmakers that are diverse, inclusive, and groundbreaking.
Overcoming numerous obstacles and delays, the highly anticipated Pakistani film finally graced the silver screen on June 2nd. The director took significant measures, including a name change to “Kukri,” and had previously expressed intentions to resubmit the film to the censor board for approval.
In an interview, Aleeha clarified that the decision to alter the film’s title was prompted by concerns that the original name, “Javed Iqbal,” could be misconstrued as glorifying the character. The director firmly asserted that the film never intended to glorify Iqbal or his atrocious acts, but rather aimed to raise awareness and prompt viewers to be vigilant against child abusers, ensuring the safety of their children.
