Smart Cards for Vehicle Registration coming to Sindh

Recently a new Tax and Excise Bureau at I, Director General (DG) Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control. I. Chundrigar Road Karachi was inaugurated by Director General (DG) Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Mr. Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui where the provincial minister, Mr. Muskesh Chawla was also briefed about the operations within the new building.

During the announcement, Mr. Chawla shared details regarding the new mechanisms that are soon to be put in place regarding vehicle registration, information management, security, and number plates.

Minister Chawla was briefed about the facility center that is soon to be developed in the new premises to facilitate the taxpayers.

He announced that the smart card issuance shall begin in 2 to 3 weeks’ time.
Mukesh Chawla said that despite the difficult situation of Coronavirus, Sindh Excise and Taxation has achieved the target of more than 100 percent tax collection during the Financial Year 2019-20.

Mr. Chawla made the announcement that going forward, the vehicle owners shall receive a smart card instead of a registration book for their vehicles.

Mr. Chawla highlighted that the smart card shall contain the entire tax record of the car and the owner which will be kept in a computerized database of the registration authority. The security features and number plates shall also be prepared accordingly.

The step will ensure that the citizens will no longer need to go through the long and exhaustive process of obtaining a booklet that contains of highly sensitive information. The handy smart card will contain the information and at the same time, the process is easy for everyone to obtain and synced with the main database of the registration authority.
